The never-ending advice to cut back on salt fails to give the whole story on this misunderstood substance. In fact, if you don’t get enough of the right kind of salt, you may be sowing the seeds of your own health destruction.
A nightly newscast recently carried a report on the most recent Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initiative beginning a public campaign (propaganda) to further persuade Americans to cut back on salt.
Well, we have to remember that Americans think that salt is salt. Not so at all. Everyday salt that we consume is sodium chloride. This is a bad salt because it is processed salt. That means it is heated and the mineral value is diminished. Continue reading
Getting answers is easy. Living the answers is where character and successes call home.
Why do most who’ll swear they want bigger and better continue to do what’s easy rather than what’s right? The reasons are no mystery. Some reasons have to do with comfort.
1. It’s common knowledge that it takes 2-4 weeks to change a habit or attitude. For many, this is a quick fact, yet something which is held as information-only, rather than used as a tool to inspire the shifting of personally limiting habits. We need to say “It’s true for me, not just “It’s true” or “It’s true for that other guy.”
2. Staying with an old habit Continue reading
Twelve weeks of training geared towards improving muscular power in older people are highly effective for improving their functional capacity and quality of life, as shown by the studies carried out by the “Biomechanics and Physiology of Movement” research group at the Public University of Navarre led by Professor Mikel Izquierdo-Redin.
The results of these pieces of research, conducted in collaboration with the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (Portugal) and the Federal University of Rio Grande del Sur (Brazil), have been published in two articles in the scientific journal Experimental Gerontology: “Effects of high-speed power training on functional capacity and muscle performance in older women” and “Strength prior to endurance intra-session exercise sequence optimizes Continue reading
Seizures eliminated in 48 percent of patients and QOL improved in 80 percent of patients according to 26-year follow-up
While epilepsy surgery is a safe and effective intervention for seizure control, medical therapy remains the more prominent treatment option for those with epilepsy. However, a new 26-year study reveals that following epilepsy surgery, nearly half of participants were free of disabling seizures and 80% reported better quality of life than before surgery. Findings from this study—the largest long-term study to date—are now available in Epilepsia, a journal published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE).

Case Western Reserve Theorist Develops Incomparable Model that Unifies Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
The earth is alive, asserts a revolutionary scientific theory of life emerging from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. The trans-disciplinary theory demonstrates that purportedly inanimate, non-living objects—for example, planets, water, proteins, and DNA—are animate, that is, alive. With its broad explanatory power, applicable to all areas of science and medicine, this novel paradigm aims to catalyze a veritable renaissance.

Back pain is not merely ordinary discomfort. It is a teacher of life lessons instructing us about our bodies and the mind-body connection. If you work through the pain and deal with it in a mindful, natural way, you can find relief and gain a new appreciation for avoiding backaches and improving your life’s journey.
Back Pain Redux
Recurring, chronic back pain is nobody’s friend, although it offers a tough-love educational experience. In the search for relief, this type of pain can too often lead to drug addiction, depression, disability and many more problems if you let it get out of control. But you have to remember that neck pain, upper back pain, low back pain and tail bone discomfort can each have quite different causes. Consequently, each comes with its own lesson.
I became an uncomfortably close friend to low back pain during my college years. In those days, I was a constant athlete. I was a competitive swimmer from age 5 to 13. Then I got serious about tennis, football, basketball, skiing and distance running. During all those activities, I never had a problem with my low back until the beginning of my first year at Brigham Young University (BYU).
I distinctly recall my first low back strain. Continue reading
Anger can have a destructive—even deadly—effect on your health.
Everyone gets angry. But according to Dr. Don Colbert, M.D., author of Deadly Emotions, anger can profoundly damage your health. “Depression, anger, guilt, condemnation, low self-esteem…these are only a few of the lethal toxins…,” Dr. Colbert warns.
He supports these claims with scientific evidence about the effects of anger on the physiological aspect.
Simply put, the effects of anger, triggers a biologically embedded “fight-or-flight” response. In ancient times, when human beings faced physical threats like animal predators, the fight-or-flight response saved our lives by pumping our bodies with hormones and chemicals necessary to fuel intense physical action. Inversion therapy has been a secret health practice, revered for centuries among yogis, ninja warriors, and other clandestine societies. Inversion is the act of hanging upside down, performing a headstand, or using a simple surface to lie at an inverted angle.
The coveted wisdom of this practice is understood only in the tightest-knit circles, even now. Why? Because its health benefits were so powerful and wide ranging that few were willing to share their special advantage with outsiders!
It’s little wonder you’ll now find the tradition of inversion being carried on among modern elites such as the Army Rangers, who perform gravity boot inversion exercises behind the walls of Fort Bragg, at the U.S. Army Physical Fitness School inversion therapy
But the secret of inversion has also found its way into another kind of society — high society. Among rising stars and socialites, inversion is fast becoming the hottest new treatment for its growing list of positive benefits. Continue reading
As a group, Americans are the heaviest people in the world. We’re suffering a weight epidemic of massive proportions that bulges out on our hips, thighs and stomachs. But if you’re part of this group and want to bring your weight down, changing six aspects of your lifestyle may help take off pounds.
Many experts have warned that the growing number of overweight people in the United States represents a growing public health menace. But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes the problem seems to be just about out of control: 73 percent of us are overweight, and about 40 percent of overweight people are heavy enough to be classified as obese.
While overweight and obesity Continue reading
