Enhance Spiritual, Mental and Physical Well-Being with a Pineal Gland Detox

A tiny gland in the center of the brain named the pineal may seem insignificant, but researchers have found it to be vital for physical, mental and, many believe, spiritual health. To awaken this gland from its slumber, detoxification is necessary using diet and herbs, Continue reading

Melatonin May Fight Gum Disease

Melatonin, a hormone secreted by the pineal gland that is also available as a supplement, may fight gum disease, according to a study published in the Journal of Periodontology. Research on this antioxidant shows that people with more melatonin in their saliva have less gum tissue inflammation.

“(Our research) suggests that melatonin may fight against infection and inflammation possibly due to its antioxidant, anti-aging and immune-enhancing ability,” says Pablo Galindo, D.D.S., Department of Oral Surgery, School of Dentistry, University of Granada, Spain.

Melatonin supplements are often used to deal with jet lag and as a sleeping aid to fight off insomnia.

That MP3 Player May be Hazardous to Your Health

A new piece of health news offers a note to on danger to those who love listening to their MP3 players. Advances in crisp audio in these ubiquitous devices have created a potentially serious health hazard.

Researchers have found that one in four teens is in danger of early hearing loss as a direct result of these listening habits. While the study assessed teenagers’ music-listening habits and preferred volume, the results are relevant to anyone of any age who routinely uses MP3 players.

The study showed that, in one to two decades, an entire generation of young people may suffer hearing problems far earlier than natural aging. Hearing loss caused by continuous exposure to loud noise is a slow and progressive process. People may not notice for years that damage is actually occurring. Continue reading

Cherry Drink Shown To Deepen Dreamtime

It’s estimated that Americans spend $84 million each year on over-the-counter sleep aids. So, it may come as good news that Northumbria University researchers recently discovered that drinking tart cherry juice every day may improve sleep quality.

Authors of the study examined the sleep patterns of volunteers who drank two glasses of Montmorency cherry juice each day for one week, and then once again when the participants consumed the same quantity of a fruit cocktail beverage.

The researchers observed that when the individuals drank cherry juice, they slept an average of 39 minutes longer each night and experienced a 6 percent increase in sleep efficiency, when compared to their resting patterns during the week they consumed fruit punch. Continue reading

Research Says Eating Walnuts Improves Critical Thinking

Walnuts have long been known to influence the brain and in the natural health world, they’re known as a key brain food. Now, according to research published in the British Journal of Nutrition, eating walnuts regularly can significantly increase critical thinking and especially what’s called inferential reasoning.

Inferential reasoning is the ability to infer truth from other known truth and it is also the ability to deduce information based on prior experience and context. It’s sometimes thought that there are two fundamental types of reasoning. So dramatically improving one is an enormous step in the right direction, and it’s nice that it can be done by an easy dietary addition. Continue reading

How and Why Melatonin Is an Effective Cancer Treatment

Numerous studies have established melatonin as one of the most effective anti-cancer treatments in existence. It inhibits cancer cell growth and proliferation; it destroys cancer cells, stops angiogenesis (new tumor blood vessel growth), and prevents harmful forms of estrogen from stimulating cancer cell growth. Despite its success in clinical trials and in doctors’ experiences with their patients, it has not been widely prescribed in conventional medicine, though its effects have proven to be superior to those of many chemotherapeutic drugs.

In one clinical trial, patients with glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer, were given either radiation and melatonin, or radiation alone. Twenty-three percent of the patients who took the melatonin were alive after a year, while none who had received only radiation were still alive. Similarly, in another study by oncologists in Italy, patients with non-small cell lung cancers who had failed chemotherapy were given melatonin. They were compared with other patients with non-small cell lung cancers who weren’t given melatonin. A year later, 26 percent of the patients who had taken melatonin were still alive;  Continue reading
