A new study had found that some fruit and vegetables may hydrate the body twice as effectively as a glass of water – making them a refreshing snack option during the hot summer months.
Containing hydrating salts, minerals and sugars, they work in a similar way to the isotonic drinks favoured by athletes.
Water-rich fruit and vegetables act like a two-in-one meal and drink, providing the mineral salts, natural sugars, amino acids and vitamins that Continue reading
First and foremost beta carotenes are one of the many brightly compounds called carotenoids that make foods red, yellow, and orange. Also, those red or orange colored hydrocarbons found in carrots and other vegetables change into vitamin A in the body, which helps regulate the growth of cells and control immune system reactions.
The cells that are affected most by vitamin A live in your digestive tract, Continue reading
Eight Ways to Fight Colds with Food
Cold season is still here, and many of you may be looking for a better way to fight off this pest than just popping some vitamins every day. Well, here’s a list of the top eight foods to keep those nasty cold bugs away — and we’re not talking about just the usual bowl of chicken noodle soup!
1) Carotenoid-rich foods: Carotenoids are potent antioxidants that Continue reading
Carotenoids are back in the news again. These are the naturally occurring, fat-soluble pigments that provide the bright colors you see in certain plants and even animals. They are responsible for the red, yellow, and orange color of fruits and vegetables, and are also found in many dark green vegetables. Continue reading
Here I present a multi-part look at one of the most well- known nutrients in the world: vitamin C. But do you know where it came from? Do you know (other than oranges) where to get it in food? Do you know what it does? Read on.
The year was 1753. The doctor was a British naval physician by the name of Lind, who found that there was something in citrus fruits that cured scurvy. Scurvy was a common disease among sailors when they were at sea due to the lack of fresh fruits and vegetables in the diet. Lind recommended that every sailor at sea should receive a daily ration of lime or lemon juice to overcome vitamin-C (ascorbic acid) deficiency. Fast forward to today, and you’ll find that vitamin C is the most popular vitamin supplement in the world. Continue reading
Antioxidants are seemingly in the health news every day — and for good reason. They are extremely important when it comes to safeguarding your good health. Antioxidants help you to fight off foreign invaders in your body. They also slow down the aging process. They break down toxins and protect your body from oxidative stress. Eating foods high in antioxidants is clearly a smart thing to do. What is one of the best foods to eat when it comes to boosting your antioxidant levels? Try adding a little papaya.
Papaya is rich in antioxidants and enzymes. A recent study investigated the antioxidant properties of papaya against hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative stress in human brain cells. Results from the clinical trial showed that papaya extract acted Continue reading
Headaches are a crippling problem. They cost millions of dollars in lost wages and medication costs. But medicating a headache should be done only in an emergency when head pain is debilitating. Otherwise, pain killers produce a cumulative damaging effect on the liver and kidneys. Natural solutions to headaches are your best bet for a long-term solution.
Fortunately, a wide range of natural treatments for headaches are available. Often, people use meditation, ice packs, massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, sleep and other methods to relieve their acute headache pain. But there are a few things you need to keep in mind when deciding which solution to implement. Indeed, each type of headache (sinus, tension, migraine, etc.) Continue reading
Foods are of two types, acid or alkaline. If too many acidic foods are consumed, the body’s Ph becomes unbalanced and one will feel unhealthy and sick. Over-sugared junk food is highly acidic, as are meats such as pork and beef. Nat. Phos. (tissue salt no. 10) is an acid neutralizer and acid/alkaline balancer. It reduces acid in the whole body and keeps the digestive system healthy.
Sour reflux, heartburn attacks, stomach ulcers and digestive problems indicate that Nat. Phos is badly deficient. For frequent cases of indigestion, keep a bottle of this tissue salt on hand. Take 2 tablets prior to eating and dissolve 2 tablets under the tongue after a meal in order to help the body clean itself of acid build up.
Nat. Phos fights excess acidity, Continue reading
We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It’s not as easy as you think. It’s important to know how and when to eat.
What is the correct way of eating fruits?
IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! * FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN-EMPTY STOMACH.
If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.
FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let’s say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.
In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.
So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining – every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet etc – actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!
Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.
There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr..
When you need to drink fruit juice – drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don’t even drink juice that has been heated up. Don’t eat cooked fruits because you don’t get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.
But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice.. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can u believe this?? For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this ‘sludge’ reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal..

800-Year-Old Apple Could Be Healthiest to Eat
LONDON – An organic variety of apples first grown more than 800 years ago could be the healthiest to eat, according to a new study.
Pendragon apple, which has been grown in England since the 12th century, contains higher levels of plant chemicals linked to health benefits – including reducing inflammation and lowering blood sugar – than other varieties, claim researchers.
In a test, the apple came top of 12 organic and three normally grown apples, beating rivals such as Golden Delicious, Royal Gala and Cox, reports The Telegraph.
“Of all the organic varieties, Pendragon was the best apple variety and contained seven of the eight kinds of healthy components at the highest levels,” said pharmacist
“In contrast, the non-organic apples consistently had low levels … in both the flesh and the peel,” said Wakeman, who works for Eden Healthcare Technologies in Leicestershire. (ANI)
Burn symptoms depend upon its severity. A mild burn of first degree will only cause red skin and a mild pain. It takes about three to six days to heal.
Second-degree burns may cause swelling, blisters and peel the skin.
Third-degree burns are very severe; they may cause white or black charred skin. As they damage the nerves there may be no pain initially. They damage the skin layers beneath the top layer.
Burns are caused not just by touching hot objects or fire, it can be caused by many other things
The word is often used to caution small children from hot things. The very first thing that the word “burn” brings to our mind is touching of hot things or burns due to fire. But burn need not be only caused due to touching hot things or fire. It may be caused due to electric appliances or live wire, over exposure to sun etc. What ever the cause may be, it only gives you the pain. Small children experience more severe pain due to their sensitive skin.
Reduce the temperature of the burnt area
After a burn, the very first thing that you should do is to reduce the temperature of the burnt area. Put lots of chilled water or dip that body part into chilled water for 15 to 30 minutes.
Apply honey to the wound once you have washed the wound properly. It will prevent infection and will heal the wound.
Papaya contains enzymes that help to remove dead cells from the wound.
Aloe Vera is good for treating burns. Cut some fresh aloe Vera leaves and put it on the burnt area.Once the wound starts healing, break a capsule of vitamin E and pour the liquid on it. This will prevent scarring.
Applying lavender oil is also found to be effective for burns.
Home Remedies suggestions:
High Protein, High Calorie diet rich in vitamins and minerals is useful for recovery
Diet plays a very important role in the healing process. To speed up the recovery, burns patients must consume a high protein and calorie diet. Skin burn causes a loss of substantial percentage of micronutrients, such as copper, selenium, and zinc. This slows the healing process and also increases the risk of infection.
Some of the vitamins important for the recovery are: Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, Glutamine, Arginine, copper, zinc, and Selenium.
Other factors you need to know for burns
Once the preliminary treatment for the burn is done, don’t get careless. Take your medicines on time and do not keep the wound open.

Guava is another effective remedy for constipation. When eaten with seeds, it provides roughage to the diet and helps in the normal evacuation of the bowels. One or two guavas should be taken everyday.
Constipation treatment using Grapes
Grapes have proved very beneficial in overcoming constipation. The combination of the properties of the cellulose, sugar, and organic acid in grapes make them a laxative food. Their field of action is not limited to clearing the bowels only. They also tone up the stomach and intestines and relieve the most chronic constipation. One should take at least 350 gm of this fruit daily to achieve the desired results. When fresh grapes are not available, raisins, soaked in water, can be used. Raisins should be soaked for twenty-four to forty-eight hours. This will make them swell to the original size of the grapes. Half a lime, squeezed is a glass of hot water, with half a teaspoon of salt is also an effective remedy for constipation. Drinking water which has been kept overnight in a copper vessel, first thing in the morning, brings good results. Linseed (alse) is extremely useful in difficult cases of constipation. A teaspoon of linseed swallowed with water before each meal provides both roughage and lubrication.
Natural and simple diet consisting of unrefined foods
The most important factor in curing constipation is a natural and simple diet. This should consist of unrefined foods such as wholegrain cereals, bran, honey, lentils, green and leafy vegetables, fresh and dry fruits, and milk products in the form of butter, clarified butter, and cream. The diet alone is not enough.
