What Can a Snake Plant Do for You?


  • Snake plants are sometimes called the “bedroom plant” because at night they absorb carbon dioxide and toxins from the air and produce oxygen. This helps improve air quality during your sleep hours
  • Results from a study by NASA indicate that snake plants are effective against formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene, the last two of which are volatile organic compounds known to be carcinogenic in people. The plant also effectively removes carbon dioxide, which is known to reduce cognitive skills and performance
  • The snake plant might be one of the easiest container houseplants to care for as it has few requirements, will grow in full sun or shade and is drought-resistant. The plant needs no pruning and can be easily propagated from a cutting or as you repot
  • Snake plants come in a variety of shapes, colors and sizes. They infrequently trigger an allergic contact dermatitis reaction but are toxic when ingested so they should be kept out of reach of children and pets. Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect ingestion or see signs of toxicity such as excess salivation, nausea or diarrhea
