Recently, researchers at London’s Kingston University developed a blood test that can distinguish whether a person’s vitamin D deficiency is caused by a lack of sunlight, or a lack of vitamin D in their diet.
“There are question marks about just what level of vitamin D is healthy, and it may be that when we talk about deficiency in future, it should be very clearly broken down into the different forms of vitamin D arising from diet and sunlight,” said Professor Dean Naughton, who is heading the team of researchers.
Researchers say they are hoping that this could lead to discoveries about vitamin D and its effects on the body and various medical conditions.
Vitamin D aids in absorption of calcium, which helps in forming and maintaining strong bones.
