Telehealth Advocates Lobby Congress to Extend Telehealth Flexibilities
- Earlier this month, a group of 49 lawmakers sent a letter imploring Congress to “extend the current level of telehealth access and coverage beyond the coronavirus pandemic.”
- Last week, several telehealth advocates added their voices to the call for continued telehealth access and coverage beyond COVID in a letter to Congressional leaders.
- Among the groups in support are the Alliance for Connected Care, the American Telemedicine Association (ATA), Connected Health Initiative, and HIMSS.
- The letter specifically asks Congress to extend telehealth flexibilities through the end of 2021.
- Some of these flexibilities include removing geographic restrictions, allowing the patient’s home to be an originating site, and enabling certain providers to be reimbursed for telehealth.
- Despite the continued barrage for extended telehealth, it is not clear whether Congress will take any legislative action in response to these letters.
